Year One - Getting a taste

Thank you for getting involved in this study being conducted by Dr Kevin McDonald and Dr John Fitzgerald of the Sociology Program at the University of Melbourne. This document is a 'consent form'. It aims at ensuring that as a potential participant you fully understand what this research involves.

You will be asked to complete the form (tick the boxes) after talking to the researcher and reading the information sheet:

The details of which have been fully explained to me:

  • The study is interested in the meaning of drug use for young people
  • The first stage of the study involves a one-on-one interview (1 hour)
  • This will be followed by a focus group discussion (up to six sessions of about 1 hour each)
  • Doing an interview does not commit me to participating in a group discussion
  • In order to protect other people's privacy, I agree to not use any identifiable
    names during interviews and discussions.
  • I consent to this interview/discussion being taped and transcribed
  • My identity will be protected by the use of pseudonym
  • I can withdraw from this research at any time without explanation, and
    withdraw any unprocessed data.
  • I have been informed that the confidentiality of any information I provide
will be safeguarded subject to any legal requirements.
  • I agree to take part in the study
